Last Meal

When the widow of Zarephath
A single parent in Israel’s famine
Got to the bottom of her pot
And the flour and oil was not
When she faced death’s grimace
She resolved with her son to
Eat their last meal and starve
Deliverance did suddenly arrive
Not in a horse-drawn food cart
But a hungry man with authority
Elijah-who had the sheer audacity
To ask for a meal when there was
None-yet the woman with alacrity
Put God first knowing it was a test
Her reward was immediate
Elijah prophesied her flour and oil
Would outlast the grim famine
Replenishing while others were perishing
Even in sight of the Grim Reaper
She sowed and reaped for long after
A ‘God first’ policy is always the best
