Greatness In Simplicity

Great God that occupies all space and time
Whom the heaven of heavens holds not
Who is clothed and veiled in majestic Light
Yet condescends to man who sought Him not

He who separated the earth from water
And made the moon His tidal marker
A seal for the surging sea to see and falter
Surely has a way to mark the elect that matter

He who was veiled before the seraph-angels
Sinless beings who never took up Lucifer’s cudgels
They saw Him not till on Bethlehem’s blessed lea
He was born-the dying mankind’s Saviour to be

He who made all things for His good pleasure
Thousands of starry suns and windswept worlds
Yet the Director-Producer of this great cosmic art
Borrows my little heart and yours to act a part

Sixth Sense

Five senses help you know what is
Like multiple antennae they tell
Minutiae of physical world well
Yet what is apparent may not be right
Faith’s path is not illuminated by sight
The heroes of Hebrews Eleven fame
Faced daunting odds and made a name
By standing courageous in sun and rain
They felt something beyond ordinary
Having the gift of spiritual irritability
They received stimuli from above
And believed in things unseen
Based on information that was unreal
They lived in two worlds of fact and faith
Five senses validated the factual world
The sixth sense believed the revealed world
Their sixth sense was so strong and superior
That it’s witness trounced the five prior
And alternate reality became certainty
And if we in good conscience use this sense
The unseen will become manifested reality
Here’s a warning for any sixth sense believer
Never fact-check the sixth sense of faith
Instead rebut the five unbelief practitioners
The Word will rout their testimony of doubt

Come & See

Never was there a better line
Spoken in evangelism more fine
Than the advice Philip gave
His friend Nathaniel which was
‘Come and see’-with no option to decline
It is easy to sit on criticism’s pony
And flash the whip of hell’s satire
To gallop away to regions of doubt
It is more noble though to dismount
Change course and get off the high horse
To find out the cause of the fuss
And why the eagles are gathered thus
So Nathaniel did by walking back
With Philip To meet the Word in Person
He came and saw and believed
Criticize not from afar-what a lesson

Fear Not Little Flock

Fear not plucky little flock
For so they call you
Your size matters far less
Than God’s ordained will to bless
The way you tread is made for a few
Not to many is the promise due
The children of the bond-women
Are more-ask Sarah’s single son
The desolate have more children
Than the Wife of God’s Son
The Seed of Abraham today
Pass through the strait gate
That narrows to the Word-way
They march baggage-free in single file
Far from Ishmael’s hoarding hordes

Paul’s Bonds & Philippian Boon

How was it that the trials of Paul
Was a boost to the Gospel at all
How could his chains and pains
Be to all a source of spiritual gains

A conundrum that was and still is
The Philippians grew bold and brave
If Paul the Roman genius could suffer
They would give more to Him that gave

The sacrifice of one Man birthed
An explosion of the Word
Christ did thus to save the Church
Paul-to follow footsteps of the Lord

Christ the King of Heaven descended
Paul the Roman Citizen condescended
Both upended themselves for the Light
Think of a supernova-fading bright

A bed of roses is not a good foil
For a faith built on blood and toil
For us the sacrifice may not be blood
Yet for this free gift we must deny
Ourselves for the love of the Lord

Covenant Trumps Circumstance

When Israel were captives in Egypt
Denied their rights and forced to slave
In back-breaking toils of brick making
They remembered the promise God gave
And cried against the oppressive rulers
Who whip-lashed their burdened backs
Yet added no mortar to ease their tasks
In the midst of such precarious peril
They were still children of the covenant
Though despised and treated ill
After four hundred years in God’s will
Israel had only lost her fellowship
Through exile from the land of promise
The Covenant was not premised on geography
Misery and penury could not annul destiny
Today’s Israel-the elect church takes solace
In her straits she rests on God’s sovereignty

The Reasoning Of Brother Demas

Paul surely had lost his spiritual edge
Twas time for him to leave the stage
Age had made him yesterday’s sage
Demas thought-it was time to turn the page

When the anointing was still on him
Aprons taken from his saintly body
Healed all scarred at Satan’s whim
Now he abandoned Trophimus at Miletus
His prayer unable to heal an infirm buddy

This Tent-Maker turned itinerant preacher
Had failed to monetise his message
With his gift the ministry should be richer
Now he had only one cloak in his dotage

Was Paul’s mighty faith now waning?
Why was his infirmity not healed
After years of tearful pleading
His faltering faith had finally failed

This man who had seen the third heaven
Was now trapped in a stinking cell
A manacled maniac musing about death
Rejoicing in tolling of martyrdom’s bell

Brother Demas was done with this
He wanted out to make great impact
With a gospel not enfeebled by piety
A ministry better in strategy and tact

But Brother Demas failed to see
Divine strength robed in weakness
Was God’s own modus operandi
The gift is not to bless those in the harness
