The Word Of God Is Not Bound

When Paul the great apostle
Was caged in a Roman prison
Awaiting Emperor Nero’ pleasure
Though he erred not by any measure
His corporal body was chained
While his inner spirit-man soared
Though he suffered-we gained
For the truth keeps marching on
Almost all the apostles died for the Way
Yet the Word of God was not bound
The bloody harvest of death and pain
Merely stimulated the new grain
Today more are persecuted and killed
For daring to affirm the risen Lord
Still the Word cannot be bound
And the path from Cross to Glory
Is dripping with righteous blood shed
For the free and full Gospel story

Paul’s Bonds & Philippian Boon

How was it that the trials of Paul
Was a boost to the Gospel at all
How could his chains and pains
Be to all a source of spiritual gains

A conundrum that was and still is
The Philippians grew bold and brave
If Paul the Roman genius could suffer
They would give more to Him that gave

The sacrifice of one Man birthed
An explosion of the Word
Christ did thus to save the Church
Paul-to follow footsteps of the Lord

Christ the King of Heaven descended
Paul the Roman Citizen condescended
Both upended themselves for the Light
Think of a supernova-fading bright

A bed of roses is not a good foil
For a faith built on blood and toil
For us the sacrifice may not be blood
Yet for this free gift we must deny
Ourselves for the love of the Lord
