Sixth Sense

Five senses help you know what is
Like multiple antennae they tell
Minutiae of physical world well
Yet what is apparent may not be right
Faith’s path is not illuminated by sight
The heroes of Hebrews Eleven fame
Faced daunting odds and made a name
By standing courageous in sun and rain
They felt something beyond ordinary
Having the gift of spiritual irritability
They received stimuli from above
And believed in things unseen
Based on information that was unreal
They lived in two worlds of fact and faith
Five senses validated the factual world
The sixth sense believed the revealed world
Their sixth sense was so strong and superior
That it’s witness trounced the five prior
And alternate reality became certainty
And if we in good conscience use this sense
The unseen will become manifested reality
Here’s a warning for any sixth sense believer
Never fact-check the sixth sense of faith
Instead rebut the five unbelief practitioners
The Word will rout their testimony of doubt

The Need For Gratitude

When you rise to a stretching morning
And all you see is a daunting dawning
Remember some have sunk to deep sleep
Know that of gratitude you have sore need

When you encounter perils on life’s way
And you are swarmed by bills to pay
Remember He who does the ravens feed
Think that of gratitude you have sore need

When still weak and ill after the pill
And you see the sands of youth ebbing
Remember the Physician you are serving
Plead that of gratitude you have sore need

When they say opportunities come only once
And you have fluffed your lines like a dunce
Think-the denying disciple became Apostles’ example
Smile-for of gratitude you have sore need

If a flotilla of past sins heaving and bobbing
Buffets your mind with waves of doubt
To dam this tide of damnation did the Saviour bleed
Remember that of gratitude you have sore need

And if inspiration fails the despairing muse
Or he wonders if his words are of any use
Perhaps it is only for one and one yet unborn
For the gift of a reader-of gratitude he has sore need

Caleb: Pillar Of Courage

Caleb was the son of Jephunneh of the tribe of Judah
He has little introduction in the books of Moses
But at the end he emerges with the scent of the roses
He was a hero of Israel who stood for the Word
Gallant he was as he put all God’s enemies to the sword

When Israel neared the frontiers of the promised land
God instructed that they send a reconnaissance band
A band of twelve men, one from each tribal ken
They would stealthily enter the land, survey it and report
Whether it was truly blessed as God had promised
Only noble men were chosen, it was a matter of great import

The information gleaned would be useful for the invasion
So the spies had to appraise the people of the land
Were they many or few, did they live in strongholds?
Could they be defeated by Israel and God’s mighty hand? Continue reading
