Centuries later they earned a dishonourable mention
By Paul in his epistle to the beloved Timothy
What did they do to be worthy of such derision?
In the palatial court of the pagan Pharaoh
They were many wise men-versed in the arts
And science of Egypt-it was not a lonely furrow
Why did Jannes and Jambres easily stand out?
It was the union of wisdom and supernatural might
That made them Pharaoh’s favoured by a shout
Yet with their great learning they failed to see the truth
God’s prophecy unfolding before their eyes
Their miraculous magic was their opium-fruit
So they were damned by believing their lies
Moses and Aaron as instructed had shown the sign
The dropped rod became a wriggling serpent
Pharaoh scoffed, he called his greats-he would not resign
To defeat for a mere miracle, an ordinary magical feint
Jannes and Jambres duly produced snakes
Three snakes were seen wriggling and twisting
Suddenly Moses’ snake lunged and swallowed
Once and again which ended all jousting
Aaron picked the serpent and it became a rod hallowed
The false anointing ran dry on reckoning’s day
Their advertised folly had run its course
Moses triumphed for he was in God’s way
This is not merely history but also a prophecy
That Paul affirms in the second book of Timothy
Men with great learning and supernatural gifts
Would perform wonders yet reject the truth
Leading away many souls in their delusional drift
What separated Moses from Jannes and Jambres?
It was not the miraculous-to both camps it was superfluous
It was not the learning without discerning
The litmus test was the Promise of the Age
The dispensational truth, the turning of the page
Today, gifted theologians abound as prophesied
If they speak not the promised Word for this age
Ignore the swelling words and spiritual signs
Seek for the truth and calmly turn the page
