Miriam and Aaron: Prophetic Siblings

Miriam and Aaron were the siblings of Moses
Prophet siblings of a great and mighty prophet
The trio were prophets-God chooses as He pleases
This is predestination’s result not a DNA effect

Miriam was that prophetess who as a young lass
Advised Pharaoh’s daughter to appoint Moses’ mother
As his wet nurse after he was rescued from Nile’s water

Many years later on the shore of another sea
She ‎led the victorious Israelites to sing of deliverance
They basked in the joy of freedom and salvation so free
Future Psalmist learns that a horse is a vain hope for safety
‎In midst of a fiery battle or on life’s peaceful lea

Yet one day she and Aaron spoke evil of Moses
Murmuring about his choice of an Ethiopian wife
‎They mused and groused, should he not marry a Jew?
‎God was vexed at the disregard and the strife
He summoned the trio for a status review

God smote Miriam with leprosy for her fantasy
For she believed she was at par with Moses
Had God not spoken to her and Aaron?
Moses was over the House of Israel-‎anointing has doses
He was the prophet of the age, leader of the exodus
If they had realized this there would no fuss

Aaron too was in the wrong for he pleaded for mercy
He was not the most perfect man to see
But God had chosen him in Egypt to be
A prophet to Moses, who was his god
God spoke to Moses; Aaron re-echoed the Word

It was Aaron that founded the line of Levite priests
‎Being the first high priest of the Mosaic law
Which continued for generations though it had a flaw
The heart of its adherents remained a putrid s‎ore
Animal blood could not kill the desire to sin more

Yet this Aaron was easily swayed by the congregation
‎While Moses waited at the mount for instruction
Murmuring Israel were in devilish insurrection
Where is Moses? They cried for a tangible god
Aaron obliged them with golden calves for worship
A template for the many that walk the way that’s broad

Aaron was the master of the righteous turn
A return to first love ‎before judgment’s dawn
Once a livid Moses descended the mount
Aaron switched sides and was part of the godly count
Others perished, lacking patience, piety or penitence

Miriam and Aaron were greater than all their mistakes
Surely they would be with us behind the pearly gates
‎These scriptures were written for our instruction
If through dark voices, from the path you stray
At first light please return to the narrow way
Return like Aaron before judgement’s hourglass is done
Learn from Miriam and never in baseless rage
C‎hallenge the vindicated Word for the age

Moses: The Sign And It’s Message

‎God called his name from the burning bush
Moses was now standing on hallowed ground
Made holy by the descent of the Holy God
Same grounds that Moses trod when grazing around

God had heard the affliction of His people
Woes and wailing for wounds of taskmasters
He had descended to liberate and to topple
Their oppressors-the first anti-Semitic haters

He promised an exodus, an end to the old
And a journey to a new land of milk and honey
Acquisition of ‎huge tracts of land without money

And this was not strange for it was promised
To Abraham, that His seed would suffer
In a strange land for four centuries before God would offer
Succour, liberation and then the jubilation of possession

Moses listened in awe, He realized it was God by His word
He then asked He that spoke in the Bright Flame
What shall I say is your Name?
God replied I AM THAT I AM, tell Israel that I AM

Many centuries later, the God of the burning ‎bush
Incarnated in flesh and told Israel He was the I AM
Abraham saw, unlike Moses they that heard were not calm
They wanted to stone Him-could this pushover be Jehovah?

God gave Moses two signs-his rod turning to a serpent
And his hand becoming leprous after placing in his bosom
If Israel failed to believe the Voice of the first sign
Or the second-judgement ‎would strike without ransom
Bloody recompense for those who won’t tow the line
Israel escaped for she, by choice believed the Voice

What was the Voice of the appearing Sign?
What Message was behind serpent rod and leprous hand?
It was a Scriptural Voice, an exodus by Divine design

Israel could look back and see the promise
She could see the age of fulfillment had come
Her belief was thus based on a spiritual premise

As it was with Moses, any true prophetic wonder or sign
Must herald a revelation promised for that age
Otherwise it’s routine miraculous magic by those who dine
In Pharaoh’s ‎court, a false anointing that comes to naught

Amram & Jochebed

Israel had come to Egypt for famine’s succour
Joseph’s ascension saved them from rigour
Exile was wonderful, the land was fruitful
Their lovely Goshen promised a golden future

All changed when a new king arose
A pharaoh who knew not Joseph’s deeds
Nor cared for his people and ‎their needs
Not indifference, but the hatred ‎that feeds
Anti-Semitism, seeds of Holocaust’s weeds
