Boaz: The Willing Kinsman

Boaz was a wealthy kinsman of Elimelech
A native of Bethlehem, son of Salmon and Rahab
This son of a saved stranger was soon be the leading light
In the fight to right the wrongs of Naomi’s perilous plight

Naomi and Ruth had arrived Bethlehem bereft and bankrupt
Naomi had lost her estate, she and Ruth deserved a peasant’s fate
Would they forever lean for support on the right to glean?

Naomi wanted far better for her Gentile daughter
She must have rest, a living space in this land of the blessed
She directed her to the feet of Boaz to meet and greet
And perhaps find favour to provide a lasting succour

Amram & Jochebed

Israel had come to Egypt for famine’s succour
Joseph’s ascension saved them from rigour
Exile was wonderful, the land was fruitful
Their lovely Goshen promised a golden future

All changed when a new king arose
A pharaoh who knew not Joseph’s deeds
Nor cared for his people and ‎their needs
Not indifference, but the hatred ‎that feeds
Anti-Semitism, seeds of Holocaust’s weeds

Joseph, A Prototype Of Christ – Coda

The Midianite merchants brought Joseph to Egypt
Being ‎bought by Potiphar, Pharaoh’s officer
He was trusted to ‎administer all of his master
Except the wife, ‎for doing so would be disaster

Potipher’s wife lusted after Joseph and tempted
With secret ‎rewards that would destroy Joseph’s purpose
If he ever that act of disloyal wickedness attempted
Joseph declined and she was shame-facedly morose
Daily she pursued, and daily he doggedly refused

Yet she framed him with evidence of his righteousness
A garment obtained in flight from evil’s appearance
Ironic, yet it was God’s plan not happenstance
